An Evening Swim

Posted on

I don’t need to remind anyone that it has been *HOT* lately! A few evenings ago I had to drive a few towns over for work, so the boys came along and we hit the beach!

Empty lifegaurd’s chair? What three year old would NOT climb up?

Zach loves the water! He’ll set off running across the beach and walk right out to chest deep… and the fuss because we won’t let him go further!

Thomas the Train

Posted on

I’m trying some larger pics….hope it doesn’t clog the system. They are still clickable to zoom in even more!

It was Thomas the Train day in Conway last weekend!  We were a little late getting there thanks to a missing Thomas the Train shirt (and you know you can’t go visit Thomas the Train without wearing a Thomas the Train shirt, right?)…. and it was HOT…. but the boys had fun!

A high five for Sir Topham Hatt.

Say cheese! I think Sir Topham Hatt is smiling.

I should have got video of this turtle. Turtles are supposed to be slow, right? Not this guy. Ben could barely keep up!

Zach LOVED the train ride. L-O-V-E-D.  We were lucky enough to sit in the one air conditioned train car, and there was fun Thomas music being piped in. What’s not to love, I guess?

Fat leg shot. :)

Poor Ben. For once, all the focus is on his little brother!

That’s better!

There were lots of kids running around with sweat-smeared face paint dripping down their cheeks thanks to the 95 degree heat, so we opted for a very cool dragon on the arm!

Zach. Just Zach.

Ben spent the night at Nana’s last week, so Zach got a little alone time with us! He got to play with whatever toy he wanted, for as long as he wanted! Granted, his attention span is not that long…

York’s Wild Kingdom

Posted on

The summer weekend-excursion season has officially begun! This weekend we headed over to the coast of Maine to York’s Wild Kingdom.

We started out in the zoo section, and hit the butterfly house first. Ben loved a similar butterfly exhibit when he was Zach’s age, so we weren’t surprised when Zach was thrilled!

One of the nice parts of this is that is it totally enclosed, so Zach could run around to his heart’s content without us constantly reeling him in!

Ben’s turn for fun next! Pony rides!

There was an enclosed area for deer feeding. When we first walked in we assumed that the fence was to keep deer out the walkway, but we quickly discovered that it was really just to keep the humans out the rest of the exhibit!

Zach was not so sure about this…

Good luck getting your full quarter’s worth of food out of this machine! The deer are no fools.

The petting zoo was next… these animals were more Zach’s size!

I had no desire to get closer to this snake, thanks.

After a quick picnic lunch, it was on to the rides!! NOW Ben was REALLY excited! The first ride was this crazy mouse roller coaster. He kept trying to put his hands up in the air, but he’s not that brave yet..

Kiddie bumper boats. Ben actually went on this one a couple of times. Looks fun to me!

Here you can see him telling the Kiddie-bumper-boat-guy some story, which I’m sure was riveting. He actually told lots of stories to ride-guys. And to concession-stand-girls,and boys-in-line-behind-him…..

Haunted house #1! Ben loves all things spooky, so these were right up his alley!

Alone on the wiggly worm. He was not so impressed.

The Merry Go Round was much more entertaining for both boys!

The last ride of the day was the one he spied from our picnic table at lunch, and *could not wait* to give it a try! I think he looks a little nervous here, but he’ll never admit that! I tried to get a picture of them mid-slide, but they were moving way too fast!

After York’s Wild Kingdom we walked down by York Beach. We’ll have to go back for a full day at the beach one of these weekends. Both boys were very tired by this point.

Being tired makes Zach go to sleep, and it makes Ben be very uncooperative, even while eating ice cream!

Swimming Lessons!!

Posted on

Ben had his very first swimming lesson today! To say he was excited would be an understatement…

The lesson involved lots of hula-hoop time. Running through the hoop was fun…

And then they really got to “swim” by kicking those feet!

The post lesson picture.
No caption needed, I don’t think. He was pretty happy!!

Alllllll day he had been seeing his “name chocolate” in the fridge, knowing it was his special “after-swimming-lesson-treat.” One happy kid! He can’t wait for tomorrow!

This is how you exercise!

The lucky boys got to see Santa last weekend!! Ben was SUPER excited to go see him, and was not afraid to tell him exactly what he wanted for Christmas…. M&Ms!!

Zach was very interested in that big fuzzy beard…
